Subaru has just announced the JDM WRX STI. It'll be the range topper for the WRX line-up, of course. It'll feature a lot of improvements from chassis stiffening to upgraded motor specs and even safety. When will the US and Europe see it? It's hard to say. I'm sure the guys on the FP will cover it, so I'll just upload some photos for now.

So the JDM STi is better than the EDM and USDM STi? I bet we never get it, and the 25 year law will prevent me from getting one until 2040.
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

They need to do four-wheel steering again. I'm assuming this hasn't got it?

They drive on the right side of the car, but on the wrong side of the road, the most correct people are mailpeople in the US, they drive on the right side of the car, as well as the right side of the road

But the important question is: where are the gold rims?

I don't get it. Are you saying there is a new version of the STI available beyond the one they currently sell here? or did you just find out about the STI?

The STI has already been on sale here in the US for a little while now.
Your press release link didn't work for me, but I was able to get to the STI and S4 press releases.
The Japanese STI has a 2.0 liter motor, compared to the 2.5 liter motor we get here in the US. This has been the case for a while.
I'm guessing the JDM STI is actually using the same motor from older STI models there rather than a higher-power version of the new WRX motor. Because the WRX S4 press release mentions that the WRX S4 has a direct-injected motor. The STI press release makes no mention of direct injection.
However, the S4 is apparently only available with the CVT. The only transmission choice mentioned is the Sport Lineartronic. Which I assume is what Subaru calls a CVT.
So basically...
STI - like the USDM STI, it's using an older motor, but has all the STI goodies—fancy diffs, big brakes, stiffer suspension, wing, etc.
S4 - like the USDM WRX CVT, current-gen direct injection motor, but running presumably more boost since it has 300 hp

I wonder if the JDM is much lighter.

Didn't see any weight number in the press release, unfortunately.
